week 6- Miyazaki and Studio Ghibli

Nausicaa is a beautiful example of style exploration , its a drift from Ghiblis usual aesthetics and techniques but its s strong stand alone. As far as manga to movie adaptation , it stays pretty much on par with its written counterpart and doesn't sell itself short.

Generally, Miyazaki doesn't skimp in his work . Almost all of his works are stand alone narratives that have depth and substance. His use of colors, textures and music all come together to create a world of wonder and and whimsy (even with his more violent story lines). During our lecture , it was mentioned that Miyazaki doesn't want his stories to be seen as having hidden meaning , but im going to disagree with that. There are plenty of reference to mythology , icons and symbolisms that its almost ludicrous to disregard them. In most of his films we can see some reflection of his many styles and aesthetics that he doesnt us too frequently in the majority of his films but his written work is  a time of artisitc exploration. we can see that in films like :

 kikis delivery service:  The use of a urban spaces , and more rural spaces. as well as the symbolism of kikis read hair tie and her going through various life challenge and having to take responsibility and fend for herself at such a young age.

Princess Mononoke: Character design and the mix and change of animations style to capture the aesthetics of their monsters/ spirits . as well as the minimal amounts of dialogue for a majority of the film.
